Seesaw/Inverted pendulum (Quanser)
The laboratory experimental setup "Inverted Pendulum" contains the technical realisation of an unstable plant.

The objective of this experiment is to keep the pendulum upright while maintaining the cart position. The cart is driven by a rack and pinion mechanism using a DC motor. The cart position is measured using a sensor coupled to the rack via another pinion. The pendulum mounted on the cart is free to fall in the direction of motion of the cart.

The examples of the systems with similar dynamics are the flight of a rocket and the reverse driving of a truck with a trailer.

The laboratory pilot plant can also be set up as the seesaw experiment where the design objective is to balance the seesaw using a sliding powered mass or the seesaw/pendulum coupled system where one wants to keep the pendulum upright on top of the seesaw.
