Coupled drives (TQ CE108)

Coupled drives (TQ CE108)

The CE108 Coupled Drives Apparatus is one of a unique range designed for the study of dynamical systems and control engineering using analogue and computer control.

The range includes typical systems from each of the major branches of engineering science. The coupled electric drives apparatus relates to industrial material transport control problems as they occur in magnetic tape drives, textile machines, paper mills, strip metal production plants, etc.

The apparatus consists of two electric motors which are coupled by a continuous flexible belt. The belt also passes over a swinging arm which is instrumented to allow measurement of the belt speed and tension. The basic control problem is to regulate the belt speed and tension by varying the motor torques. In addition to this, exercises are provided which demonstrate techniques for speed and tension control, simultaneous control of velocity and tension, and analysis of multi-variable control systems.

The CE108 is designed to operate with external analogue or digital control elements, the CE120 Controller or the CE122 Digital Interface. Details of the CE120 and CE122 are available on separate Data Sheets.
