José M.A. Longo received his degree in aeronautical engineering from the Catholic University Córdoba of Argentina in 1978 and his Doctor degree from the Technical University Braunschweig of Germany in 1993. Dr. Longo’s main scientific interest concern modeling, simulation and design in aerodynamics, gas dynamics and aerothermodynamics. He has worked almost 14 years, from 1979 till 1992, in the aeronautic field at the Military Factory in Argentina, Dornier Aircraft Germany, MBB Germany and finally since 1987 at the German Aerospace Center, DLR. Since 1993 he is working in space programs at DLR, becoming in 2000 the leadership of the Spacecraft Branch of the Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology with almost 20 researchers between senior scientists and post-graduated students. He has managed several space programs at national level as well as for the European Space Agency; he has served on several scientific advisory boards like the German Space Agency, European Space Agency, the French Space Agency and the US – Air Force Research Laboratory. Dr. Longo received in 1978 the University Best Score Award; in 1995 the DLR Research Award; in 1999 the NASA X-38 Project Award and in 2002 the NASA Group Achievement Award.
